Tom Evans and the El Cap Report

If you have never heard of the El Cap Report and you’re interested in climbing in Yosemite Valley, then stop what you’re doing right now and head over to Tom Evan’s website. He has been doing this report since 2007 and I think it’s a fantastic service that he provided for free for a long time. In fact, when he decided to close up shop, the park even lured him back with a small paycheck. [1]

I climbed Salathe Wall back in 2011 [2] and had heard that he was very approachable if you wanted some pics of yourself on the wall. After finishing the climb, I asked him if I could get any pictures he may have taken of us. In an almost bunisness type manner he told me to swing by the next day. I swung by and he gave me a CD with all the pics he had taken that he thought might be of us! For free! I thanked him profusely and when I got home I promptly donated $50 to his site.

Tom Evans is a treasure for any and all climbers who brave the vertical frontier of El Cap. I highly encourage you to check out his site…but beware…you may want to climb a 3,000 foot granite cliff after you do.
